J. F. van Rooij, M. A. Brak, and J.F Commandeur (1988) examined the relationship between the Astrological Sun Sign and extraversion by replicating a study done in 1978 by Mayo, White, and Eysenck. A great amount of research has attempted to replicate a previous study to try and get similar findings. A previous study found that individuals whose zodiac signs were Aries, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius were more prone to be extroverted. The Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces signs tend to be more introverted.
These researchers decided to continue the research around relationships between the Sun Sign and extraversion. The current study examined previous data that had been collected over a 5 year period, that was not originally focused around astrology. Thus, people could not provide answers based in astrology, tainting the results.
Three factors were tested for higher rates of extraversion in the study. These factors were gender differences, odd and even zodiac signs and the astrological sun sign. Researchers found that there were no gender differences nor did the zodiac positions in regards to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, and Venus had any effect on levels of extraversion.
